Under the auspices of President Lee Korea is slowly but surely degenerating into a semi-fascist state dominated by unprofessional, xenophobic and unashamedly racist sentiments promulgated both by the biased media and shockingly ignorant lawmakers. When will the next native teacher be killed by a Korean racist incited by the hate campaings of the Chosun Ilbo and other right-wing newspapers? Is it time for us to leave this narrow-minded peninsular for friendlier shores like Japan and China?

On the other hand, it would have been interesting if you'd agreed to meet Ms. Choi and give her a piece of your mind.

Last week my manager approached me and my boyfriend, who have both been teaching in Korea for over two years. She said the Chosun Ilbo was sending over a reporter who wanted to talk to English teachers who'd been here for two years.

After reading Choi Hui-seun's articles, I knew it was probably a bad idea, so I resolved to tell my owner/principal - a fair and open-minded person, whose husband is a university teacher from Canada - and advise her not to allow the interviews. Today I printed out these four pieces of journalistic genius and took them to my owner; even if Ms. Choi wasn't the reporter, I didn't want us to support Chosun Ilbo.

Lo and behold, Ms. Choi was the reporter in question. She joined my principal's running club recently and was bugging my boss for opportunities to meet foreign teachers. I rather doubt her motives, and now so does my principal.

Anyway, my boss is an influential person in the Gangnam area, and now she is appalled with Ms. Choi's journalistic unprofessionalism. She's asked me to send the English versions to her husband; she keeps talking about "taking action." I don't know what will happen; it could just all be talk, but we'll see.

It's also worth noting that it's not clear where any of the pictures came from. The Chosun used several obviously private pictures to illustrate its articles, and I'm very interested to know how they were obtained.
